Main Street Mural Community Survey

What three words would you use to describe living in the South Evanston community? Is it resilient? Creative? Something else entirely?

This spring, Open Studio Project is launching the Main Street Mural project to create an updated mural on the side of our building. To kick things off, we want to hear from you! Take our community survey to let us know what you love about our neighborhood, and your words just might spark an idea that makes it onto the wall.

Take our community survey

Located next to the parking lot at 727 Main Street, the new Main Street Mural will replace an existing mural that has been in disrepair for decades.

At Open Studio, we believe our public spaces should be vibrant common areas that reflect and celebrate our community. Our hope is that this mural will not only beautify our neighborhood and attract visitors, but that it will unify our neighbors around the things we love and value most about our neighborhood.

Who can take the community survey?

As a first step toward making this vision a reality, we’re asking businesses and neighbors like you to take our community survey.  Your ideas, stories, and reflections will help us design a work of public art that reflects the identity of the neighborhood.

Everyone who lives or works within walking distance of 727 Main Street in Evanston is invited to contribute.

What happens after I take the survey?

In the coming months, our creative team will use your responses to generate ideas for what could be included in the mural. The team is made up of members of the Open Studio staff team as well as Chicago-based artists Oscar Joyo, Edwige Massart, and Xavier Wynn. Together, they have decades of experience designing and executing public art projects as well as leading meaningful community engagement initiatives.

The team is excited to hear from you as we take the first steps to bring this project to life. Together, we can create a lasting work of public art that reflects the resilience, compassion, and strength of our community.
